It's been way too long since I've spent time at my torch making glass beads.  This bead came out pretty good considering it's been over 2 months since I've held hot glass in my hands.

RED ONIONS AND GARLIC

No kitchen is complete without onions and garlic. I love the sheen and deep colors that fresh red onions have, not to mention the flavors they add to all my favorite recipes.

GLASS FLOATS
11" X 15"
ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR
$50.00

Glass floats from Japan aren't found much anymore on the Oregon Coast beaches, but these brightly colored ones still are.  They are made by local glass artists and carefully hidden along the beaches for people to still find.  I suppose that is why I still love the charm and whimsy of living where people still do things just to make others feel good.

Because I just love glass, what better way of approaching this weeks challenge on Daily Paintworks by painting this in only 3 primary colors.  The grays and purples in the background are simply a mixture of them all.

FORGOTTEN
18" x 24"
Original Watercolor
$95.00

In times past her paint sparkled and her gear hung perfectly in place. The pride and joy of her captain,  and the protector of her crew.  If this old boat could talk what tales could she tell? Would she tell of the many days on the Pacific Ocean when storms suddenly rolled in out of no where? Would she tell how hard she strained against the surge of the waves bursting over her bow, while her captain stood firmly at her helm with clenched jaw and tight knuckles, confidient she would pull them through to safe harbor once again?    The excitement and pride she must have felt as the fish rolled over her sides, knowing the bounty of the catch provided those hard earned dollars that would feed the families waiting at home.

Yet, today she lists quietly on her side, supported by the mud in the estuary, abandoned and forgotten.  Life has it's cycles, and newer boats have taken her place at the docks now.  Her tales held tightly in each board and rusting cleat.

My goal when I began this paining was to capture light and how that light changes the cool and warm reflections off everything we see and feel.  I love mornings with the promise of a wonderful day to follow.

This beautiful rhododendron grows on the Alsea River in a yard of a good friend.  They actually grow wild here, but this is a hybrid type.  I just love the depth of color and design in these plants.  Not to mentioned they are very easy to grow here.

My chocolate lab Molly just loves the water and especially the location at the entrance of the Yachats River where it pours into the Pacific Ocean.   It is her favorite spot to play ball.

Happy July 1!  You would think that by now we would have summer here on the Oregon Coast but not.  The spring storms are still rolling in off the ocean and the weather is in the low 60's.   Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Newport Oregon is one of my most favorite places to watch the ever changing skies and surf as the storms roll in.  Sometimes I think I am the luckiest person in the world to have been blessed to grow up here as a child and grow old appreciating it more and more with each passing year.
